REPORT OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP CONDUCTED BY PMI BANGALORE INDIA CHAPTER.
Summary:
First of all, I would like to thank ISME for giving me the opportunity to attend the PROJECT MANAGEMENT CONCEPT FOR THE STUDENT COMMUNITY, by PMI at NIMHANS Convention Centre. Those workshop was very interesting and gave the opportunity to learn many issues and new ideas in regards to Project Management. It was a very enriching experience for me to attend this Workshop. I will describe briefly below the different aspects discussed in the conference
The goal of this project was to increase the number of graduate students, Post Graduates and early scientists to get education in the field of Project Management. To achieve this goal, a tutorial handbook consisting of five topics is created and the conference was conducted in three sessions for more than 750 participants who were Students from Engineering and Management education background.
The tutorial handbook was designed to guide step by step the user through the process of Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring, Controlling, and Closing.
The three sessions of workshop included first part covering Fundamentals of Project Management and the second part covering Fundamentals of project management – part 2, career support options and concluded with a group photo with all the students. All the participants were given participation certificates.
Apart from project management workshop, we met two young entrepreneurs one of them was Mr. Thiru from Chennai. He is pursuing 3rd year B.tech , and started his own firm in area of digital studio working on 3D graphics .The other person was a PGDM student, who started his first startup when he was 7 years and currently he is in his 3rd startup. The first two were failures .There suggestion to all of the new entrepreneurs was to find the real problem and work on the solution instead of starting something which one thinks will be profitable and trying to find the customers to make it success. Most of the startup fails as it does not identify the problem and trying to solve it.
The Key note address was delivered by Mr. S Krishnan, Project of HCL from Chennai who emphasized the fact that Project Management is not just for engineering students but for anybody who is managing a project technical or non-technical. Even managing personal events is a part of Project Management.
