The International School of Management Excellence (ISME) organized a one-day Seminar on “Professional value for Managers-Curriculum to careers” on January 7th, 2012 at its campus in Whitefield, Bangalore.
The objective of the conference was to highlight the importance of inculcating professional values at the management level. This event brought together a lot of academic talent that provided a great opportunity for the budding management professionals, to understand the importance of values and ethics, in the corporate world. Leaders from the industry addressed the conference and discussed about the corporate culture today.
The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. Sibichen Matthew, Additional Commissioner of Income tax, who started the seminar by speaking on the conference theme and highlighting the need for professional ethics. He emphasized on the importance of truth and honesty in a person’s life.”Try to walk in an organization with a balance sheet with values” he said, highlighting the Satyam scam. He talked about the theme of the conference that was- Developing Indian case studies to impart professional values in management education, to help imbibe and apply professional values in practice.
After the welcome address by ISME Director Prof. Nitin Garg, Dr. Ramesh G. Tagat (academic mentor) provided an overview of the conference theme and set the ball rolling.
The key note speaker for the day was Dr. Vasanthi Srinivasan, Chairperson, and Centre for Corporate Governance & Citizenship, IIM (B). She Emphasized on the five C’s of professional values: Competence, Credibility, Collaboration, Change and Conscience. She talked about the importance of taking right decisions in life and realizing the importance of value of time, in terms of respecting your time and other’s time. Other important speakers included ISME Board members who used the metaphor of Mahabharata with the management values.
Case studies prepared by the ISME faculty were discussed later in the afternoon, where each participant was given a time of ten minutes to present the case. After each presentation, the floor was open for questions and discussion about the case. It invited a lot of food for thought from the seminar panel and the students. The cases and papers led way to healthy discussion about topics like plagiarism, scams and embezzlements, social upheaval etc.
ll the industry leaders and academia shared great ideas and gave splendid viewpoints regarding the cases and the topic of discussion for the day. Student community gave great contribution to this whole event, by enthusiastically interacting and giving their inputs for the conference.
