FRESHER’S CUM INDEPENDENCE DAY

            FRESHER’S CUM INDEPENDENCE DAY

As Fresher’s Party is organised in every college, so was it organised in our college to bring out the hidden talents in the students and as a medium to showcase their talents. This time the Fresher’s Party was combined with the Independence Day programme. There was a group dance by the students which showed the rich cultural diversity of our country and beautifully portrayed the diverse religions. There was a poem written by Sonali Jena and read by K Deepika Rao. Two students, Venkadesh and Girish filled the auditorium with their melodious voice. The dancing sensation of ISME Sweetaleena Samantaray performed a solo dance filling us all with a sense of patriotism. The Independence Day celebrations came to an end on the following day with the historic Flag hoisting ceremony.
POEM BY SONALI JENA
I stood and watched as a mother cried
When she heard that her son had died
He neither died sick
Nor did because of any wreck.
He passed away doing what he felt to be right.
I noticed a father trying very hard to hold back his tears
Whose son did live just for 24 years.
He was miles & miles far away
I wondered what more was there for that being to stay?
Lying down his knees he called the Lord
Asking why did this happen oh my God??
I stood still and stared at a little girl who cried
Holding back that tiny droplet of tears was what she had tried.
With an innocence in her moist eyes she asked,
“why is my favourite lawn empty?”
Her innocence showed the feel of her brother’s absence.
I stared at a lady standing at a corner and weeping.
What would be called to be a silent crying;
No defined relation but still binded by emotion.
It seemed to be a girl committed to him.
Who has just passed away by a show of whim.
Promises and affection that they shared between them
And still the clodes of sadness which they overcame.
She was his only girl for whom he had felt.
Walking away with pomp and glory
Makes the world listen to his untold story.
A stranger once visited the home of bra
ve which hardly people crave.
A courageous smile on lips
And a victorious smirk on face.
Never bothering what he sacrificed and what he made others lose.
A proud heart
A clean soul
With no traces of foul
A soldier did die
Just like a legend
Whose glory would never ever come to an end.
